Ram 1500 HEMI V8 orders open for 2026 release

Ram has officially announced the return of its 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine for the 2026 Ram 1500, marking a key development in its light-duty truck lineup. The decision, revealed on June 5, 2025, reinstates one of the brand’s most recognized powertrains after it was excluded from the 2025 model year in favor of six-cylinder alternatives. The V-8 engine option is available for order now, with dealership arrivals scheduled for summer 2025.

New 2026 Ram 1500 models feature the revived 5.7‑liter HEMI V‑8 engine coupled with fuel‑saving eTorque system.

The 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 is rated at 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque and incorporates Ram’s eTorque mild-hybrid system. The powertrain supports a maximum towing capacity of 11,320 pounds and a payload rating of up to 1,650 pounds, as defined under SAE J2807 industry standards. The engine is available across multiple trims, including Tradesman, Big Horn, Express, Warlock, Laramie, Rebel, Limited and Longhorn, with Rebel availability expected later in the year.

Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Ram, confirmed that the reintroduction followed clear consumer feedback. Speaking during the official product announcement, Kuniskis stated that customer demand played a decisive role in the company’s decision to re-offer the V-8 configuration. The move allows buyers to choose between the returning HEMI and the newer Hurricane inline-six turbo engine, both designed to meet performance and efficiency benchmarks for the segment.

The eTorque system enhances the traditional internal combustion setup with a belt-driven motor generator unit and a 48-volt battery pack. It replaces the conventional alternator and enables several fuel-saving technologies, including regenerative braking, engine stop-start functionality, and torque assist during acceleration. The hybrid system provides up to 130 lb-ft of supplemental torque on throttle tip-in. It also integrates a 3-kilowatt DC-to-DC converter that maintains operation of the truck’s 12-volt electrical system and charges the auxiliary battery.

5.7‑liter HEMI outputs 395 hp and 410 lb‑ft with eTorque

The 2026 Ram 1500’s HEMI V-8 also features a performance-tuned exhaust and a 33-gallon fuel tank. Engine technologies include variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation, also known as Fuel Saver Technology, which improves fuel economy under light-load conditions. A new 850-watt electric cooling fan governed by Pulse Width Modulation tailors the energy draw to current cooling demands, contributing to overall system efficiency.

Internally, the eTorque system’s compact 430-watt-hour lithium-ion battery is mounted behind the rear seat. It is housed in a noise-insulated enclosure and cooled using twin internal fans, which operate independently of the vehicle’s primary HVAC system. The battery management system monitors thermal performance while maintaining acoustic transparency for cabin occupants. Externally, all HEMI-equipped 2026 Ram 1500 models will feature a new fender-mounted badge.

Rebel trim HEMI availability arrives later in production

Known as the “Symbol of Protest,” the emblem was created by Ram’s design team and depicts the Ram logo head framed by a V-8 engine block. This addition serves as a visual identifier for the V-8-equipped trucks within the broader product lineup. The Ram 1500 remains a core offering in the brand’s light-duty segment. Ram has stated that the returning engine option will complement its broader powertrain strategy, which includes gasoline, hybrid, and diesel configurations across the Ram 1500, Heavy Duty, and ProMaster commercial lines.

The full-size pickup market remains one of the most competitive automotive segments in North America, with engine choice and towing capability serving as primary decision factors for both retail and commercial buyers. With the reintroduction of the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, Ram expands its lineup with a powertrain that has a proven track record in performance and durability. The 2026 Ram 1500 models equipped with the engine are expected to be available at authorized dealerships nationwide starting in summer 2025. – By Content Syndication Services.
