ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates is set to inject an extra €15 billion into Greece as part of a joint investment initiative between the two nations. This development was announced on October 22 during Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi,’s official visit to Athens. Building upon a €4 billion plan launched in May 2022, the new pledge aims to strengthen both economic and strategic relations.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion will enhance collaboration across sectors deemed strategic and vital for development by both countries. The initial initiative set a framework for joint investments in areas of mutual interest, leading to notable transactions in energy and healthcare. Officials highlighted that these results demonstrated how the partnership could transform economic prospects into concrete investments. The new funds supplement the existing framework.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Discussions focused on ways to increase cooperation in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology sectors. They also examined regional and international issues. Both leaders emphasized the significance of bolstering security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis welcomed the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, underscoring the ongoing development of bilateral ties.
Strategic forum results in €12.75 billion in agreements
The visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens, where deals and commercial alliances exceeding €12.75 billion were finalized between UAE and Greek organizations. These agreements span digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. These arrangements are separate from the €15 billion investment pledge. Greek officials, including Prime Minister Mitsotakis and senior government representatives, participated in the forum.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi remarked that the agreements and the new investment plan highlight the growing confidence between the two economies. He emphasized the importance of translating this momentum into tangible projects. Al Zeyoudi described the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, while recognizing Greece as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also contributed to the forum discussions.
Greece regarded as a strategic gateway to European markets
The UAE’s decision reflects confidence in Greece’s economic resilience and investment appeal. It highlights Greece’s strategic geographic position and its role in linking European markets with regional and global ones. The expanded initiative is expected to foster closer cooperation between investment agencies and firms from both nations, as well as promote innovation and knowledge exchange. It aims to open new pathways for investments and collaborations.
This announcement is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to establish long-term investment partnerships across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany across multiple industries. The UAE has also intensified negotiations with other European countries such as Italy. Officials stated that the Greek initiative paves the way for a new era of cooperation that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
