    Euro Area Industrial Output Holds Steady as EU Sees Slight Growth of 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – Eurostat reported that industrial activity in the euro area remained flat in June 2026 compared to May, while overall output in the European Union increased by 0.2%. The figures, seasonally adjusted, followed a 0.3% growth in both regions during May. Year-over-year, production was up 0.1% in the euro area and 0.6% across the EU. The latest data showed varied shifts across key industrial sectors and member states. The report covers industry excluding construction and uses seasonally adjusted data for monthly comparisons.

    Within the eurozone, non-durable consumer goods led the monthly gains with a 3.0% rise. Energy output increased by 1.5%, while durable consumer goods saw a modest 0.3% increase. Conversely, capital goods production dropped 1.4%, and intermediate goods output decreased by 0.8%. These movements resulted in the overall industrial production index holding steady at 98.7, matching May on a 2021 base of 100. In May, non-durable consumer goods had grown 3.3%, energy 2.6%, and capital goods 0.5%.

    Across the EU, production of non-durable consumer goods rose 2.5% in June, with energy output up 1.0%. Durable consumer goods advanced 0.9%, while capital goods fell 0.9%. Intermediate goods output declined 0.7% from May. The EU industrial production index reached 101.0 in June, up from 100.8 in May. It was at 99.2 in January and experienced five consecutive monthly increases through June.

    Wide Monthly Variations Seen Among Member States

    Denmark registered the largest monthly increase among EU countries with available data, climbing 5.4% in June. Croatia followed with a 5.2% rise, while Lithuania and Finland each increased by 2.1%. Luxembourg experienced the steepest decline at 10.7%, with Portugal down 3.9% and Estonia decreasing 2.2%. Germany saw a 0.2% rise, France’s output remained unchanged, Italy fell 1.0%, and Spain declined 0.7%. Ireland increased 2.0%, the Netherlands dropped 1.7%, and Slovenia experienced a 2.0% decrease.

    Year-over-year, euro-area industrial production grew 0.1% in June. Intermediate goods gained 0.4%, energy output increased by 0.9%, and capital goods edged up 0.1%. In contrast, durable consumer goods declined 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods fell 0.5%. Across the EU, total output rose 0.6% compared to June 2025. Intermediate goods increased by 1.0%, energy by 0.3%, and capital goods by 0.9%, while both categories of consumer goods saw declines.

    Lithuania Achieves Leading Annual Growth

    Among member states with available data, Lithuania posted the highest annual growth at 7.7%. Denmark followed with 6.1%, and Poland recorded a 4.9% increase. Finland grew by 4.6%, Hungary by 4.1%, and Czechia by 4.0%. Luxembourg experienced the largest annual decline at 7.9%, with Romania down 5.6% and Estonia decreasing 4.6%. Germany and France each saw a 0.5% decline, Italy fell 0.6%, and Spain increased 1.0% compared with June 2025.

    Eurostat also updated its earlier estimates for May’s industrial output from the figures published on July 15. The euro-area monthly change was revised upward to a 0.3% increase from a previously reported 0.2% decline. The EU’s monthly figure was adjusted to a 0.3% gain, previously estimated at a 0.1% fall. The annual May figures were revised to a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% increase across the EU. Eurostat derives its regional series from seasonally adjusted national data, estimating recent missing observations when compiling the aggregates.
